CBI detained ten persons, raids at 40 places in FCRA donation case

New Delhi: CBI detained ten persons, including five government officials on Monday for taking bribe on behalf of non-profits for allegedly facilitating violations of rules in receiving foreign donations. According to the CBI sources, raided in 40 places to probe illegal FCRA donations to an NGO.

Public officials from the Home Ministry, NGO representatives and middleman were caught red-handed receiving bribe for securing foreign funding clearances. Twelve NGOs are under investigation, said the CBI sources. Illegal transactions of around ₹ Two crore routed through hawala channels have been found, after searches in Delhi, Rajasthan, Chennai, Mysore, among others.

CBI conducted raids on the complaint of the Union Home Ministry on the illegal foreign donations to NGO, said Home Ministry official. Government officials gave illegal Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) clearances to NGOs in exchange of bribe.
