IJF suspends Russian President Vladimir Putin as Honorary President

Budapest: International Judo Federation (IJF) suspended Russian President Vladimir Putin on Sunday as Honorary President of the IJF. IJF in a statement on Sunday said that following the decision to suspend Putin from IJF due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Putin, a black belt holder, became the first Russian to be awarded the eighth Dan, one of the sport’s highest honours. In light of the ongoing war conflict in Ukraine, the International Judo Federation announces the suspension of Vladimir Putin’s status as Honorary President and Ambassador of the International Judo Federation.
IJF President Marius Vizer said Grand Slam-2022 in Kazan, Russia cancelled which is scheduled this week. We, the sports community, must remain united and strong, to support each other and our universal values, in order to always promote peace and friendship, harmony and unity, he said.
