Shimla: A massive landslide boulders rolling down hit a bridge in Sangla Valley in Himachal Pradesh on Sunday caused to the death of nine tourists and several injured. Large chunks of rocks can be seen breaking off a mountain and rolling down into the valley, shown in a video.
A section of the bridge crumbling and plunging into a river after a boulder hits the bridge. The rocks can be seen hitting cars at the foot of the mountain, kicking up a massive cloud of dust.
According to the Kinnaur, SP Saju Ram Rana, all the nine victims were tourists whose vehicle got hit by boulders and the injured have been taken to a nearby hospital. A team of doctors is at the spot, he said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Jairam Thakur expressed sorrow over the loss of lives in the accident. PMO in a press release said that Prime Minister Modi has announced an exgratia ₹ 2 lakh each to the kin and kith of the bereaved families and ₹ 50,000 to the injured from PM National Relief Fund. PM in a tweet expressed wishes speedy recovery of the injured persons in the accident.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jairam Thakur in a tweet said that it is very sad that a vehicle carrying tourists came under its grip, in which nine died and two injured and one passerby got injured.
