Farmers protests against the splitting of capital from Amaravathi
Vijayawada: Pro-Amaravathi farmers staged protests and set fire to tyres and burnt effigies at various places against the Government’s decision shifting of different departments of the capital to Vishakhapatnam, Kurnool and Amaravathi.
Angry farmers climbed Panchayat office at Velagapudi and climbed the office and painted the office with black paint. Police prevented the angry farmers who attempted to blacken the Panchayat office at Rayapudi. Police registered six cases against the protesters for violating restrictions and damaging Government property.
Vellore Institute of Technology and SRM University students in Amaravathi expressed their support to the farmers. The farmers and their family members on Saturday demanded the cancellation of the proposal to setup three capitals. The women and children raised slogans against YSRCP Government, the Amaravathi expert committee which suggested the three capitals and the Chief Minister of AP Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.
