
Hari Chandan, new Governor of Andhra Pradesh
New Delhi: The Union Government appointed a senior Odisha BJP leader Bishwa Bushan Hari Chandan (85) as the Governor of Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday. The two states Governor ESL Narashiman is the Governor of Telangana state only. President Ram Nath Kovind issued the appointment orders on Tuesday.
The new Governor Bishwa Bushan Hari Chandan is an advocate, writer and senior BJP leader in Odisha. He entered politics in 1971 and was elected five times to the Odisha Assembly. He won two times from Janathadal party and thrice on BJP. He served as Minister in the Biju Patnaik- led Janathadal Government from 1992 to 1995.
He also held the food and civil supplies and co-operation port folio. He served as Revenue, Rural, Law and Industries Minister in the Naveen Patnaik-led BJD-BJP Government in 2000-2009.
He was detained under MISA during the emergency in 1975, he joined the BJP and served t he states as Odisha state President from 1982 to 1988. He joined the Janatha party in 1988 and became its state Vice-President, but returned to the BJP party on April 1996.
