Tamil Nadu shuts borders to neighbouring states
Chennai: Tamil Nadu Government said its borders with neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala will be shut till March 31st from Saturday for road traffic except for transportation of essential commodities.
The Government said Friday that as part of its measures to prevent spread of Corona virus, only vehicles carrying essential commodities i.e., milk, petrol, diesel, vegetables, medicine and LPG cylinders will be allowed into Tamil Nadu and go beyond the state’s boundaries. The Government also said in a press release, ambulances, individuals travelling in light motor vehicles like cars for unavoidable reasons like death, cargo trucks shall have to and fro access. Only limited number of buses will be operated by the Government to facilitate inter-state travel by the general public for essential purposes, said the release.
All inter-state vehicles will be sanitized and people will be screened at the borders and the Government appealed to the public to co-operate.
Karnataka: All public as well as private buses travelling from Maharashtra to Karnataka and Karnataka to Maharashtra have been suspended. The Karnataka administration did not allow public buses from Maharashtra to enter the border.
Maharashtra: Maharashtra has the highest number of Covid-19 cases in India. As precautionary measures neighbouring state of Karnataka has stopped bus services to and fro Maharashtra. Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation had issued a notice on Thursday to carry only 25 passengers in one bus and passengers will not be allowed to enter all seats are occupied.
