Bengaluru: Violence against health workers is unacceptable said Prime Minister Narendra Modi, hailing frontline health workers services fight against Covid-19. Modi was speaking at the inauguration of the foundation of on Monday and silver jubilee celebrations of Rajiv Gandhi University of health sciences.

Modi joined the meeting online. Karnataka Governor Vaju Bai Vala, Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, Deputy CM C N Ashwatha Narayan and Medical Education Minister Dr. Sudhakar attended the meeting. Speaking on the occasion via video conference Modi said that I am aware of an area that is of great concern to you all. Due to Mob mentality, those working on the frontline i.e., Doctors, Nurses and Saifai workers are subject to violence.

I want to state it clearly: Violence, Abuse and Rude behaviour is not acceptable, he said. Steps have been taken to protect you against any form of violence. We have provided a Rs. 50 L Insurance Cover for frontline workers, he said. Modi emphasized the need for discussions in three areas such as tele medicine, Make in India in the health sector and IT related tools for a healthier society, said Modi.

  2. Make in India in health care, the initial days made me optimistic, he added. Our domestic manufacturers are making PPE kits, have supplied one crore PPE kits to Covid-19 warriors. Similarly, 1.2 Cr Made in India N95 masks have been distributed to the states.
  3. IT related tools for a healthier society, and 12 Cr people downloaded the App, said Modi.

Karnataka is the first state to announce unlock 1.0 said Medical Education Minister K. Sudhakar. Everybody is required to take away the load of fear in the public. As a doctor, I am pleasantly surprised by this and curious to know about the specific reason behind this resistance power on Indians.  RGUHS has initiated a Covid-19 innovation hackathon challenge, where students and faculty of institutes of national importance like IISc, the IITs and IIMs will come together to find solutions to Covid related problems.

Once the teams are selected, Nadathur S Raghavan center for entrepreneurial learning and Bengaluru Bio-innovation center will help them. While the latter will help in innovation and technology, IIM-B will help them with a sustainable business model, said chairperson P. Venkatesh.
