
J & K Lt. Governor Murmu resigns: Manoj Sinha appointed as new Lt. Governor of J & K
New Delhi: President Ram Nath Kovind appointed Manoj Sinha as the Lt. Governor of J & K on Wednesday. The J &K Lt. Governor Murmu resigned from his post, President Ram Nath Kovind accepted his resignation and appointed Manoj Sinha as his successor, President’s office said in a press statement. The Sinha’s appointment effect with from the date he assumes charge of his office vice Girish Chandra Murmu, read the statement.
Murmu resigned as Lt. Governor of J &K exactly a year after the nullification of Article 370 in the erstwhile state and barely 9 months after he took over the reins of the newly created Union Territory. His resignation comes in the wake of controversies over his comments, which put the centre in an awkward spot, favouring restoration of 4G services at a time when the matter is in Supreme Court, and the Election Commission’s objections to his remarks on timing of Assembly polls in the UT.
