
Don’t lose common touch: PM to cops
Hyderabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged young police officers to uphold human values showcased by department during Covid- 19 pandemic and said those who get influenced by movies such as ‘Singham’ actually miss out on real aspects of policing.
Some police men when they newly join duty feel they should show their might, create fear in the minds of people and make anti-social elements tremble. Those who grow up on ‘Singham’ kind of movies, they will have these strong feelings in their mind. Due to this they miss out on real work, said Modi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually addressing on Friday in the passing out parade of 131 probationary officers including 28 women at Sardar Vallabhai Patel National Police Academy, Hyderabad.
The image of the police was no longer that of baton and repression. In the past, even after doing good work police image used to be about confrontation and repression. But during the lock down, after the way the police reached out to people with a human touch, their image has changed completely, said Modi. He also interacted with a few probationary officers and shared his advice. I suggest that all policemen do yoga and Pranayama as it will help de-stress.
Kiran Sruthi DV, a Tamil Nadu cadre probationary, commanded the Dikshant parade, the fourth time a women probationer led the parade in the history of the academy. IPS probationary Tanushree from Bihar, who has been allotted to J &K cadre, shared her training experience with Modi, especially while handling an encounter operation in Srinagar. Prime Minister advised her that she should strive to stop youngsters in Kashmir from taking the wrong path.
Tanushree, who graduated in Textile design from National Institute of Fashion Technology in Surat, was advised by Prime Minister to go beyond her call of duty in Kashmir and reach out to locals dependent on Textile. Prime Minister said there was a need for using the full potential of different technologies for various aspects of policing, adding that cops should never ignore traditional practices of constable intelligence. Modi also recalled his experience with SVPNPA Director Atul Karwal when the later was his Chief Security officer when he was Gujarat CM.
