
Assam JEE topper Neel Nakshatra Das and four other arrested for fraud
Guwahati: A JEE (mains) topper and his father were arrested on Wednesday in Assam for allegedly using a proxy candidate to appear in the test on his behalf. Three others were also arrested in connection with the case.
According to the Additional DCP Guwahati Suprotive Lal Baruah, a student Neel Nakshatra Das was arrested on charges of allegedly appointing a proxy candidate to appear in the exam. His is the son of Dr. Jyotirmoy Das. Two other arrested persons are employees of a private company. We are also investing the role of a city based coaching centre. The other accused have been identified as Hamendra Nath Sharma, Pranjal Kalita and Hiru Kamal Phatak. The Additional DCP said an FIR was filed last week by one Mithra Dev Sharma at Azara Police Station here, alleging that Neel Nakshatra, who had percentile of 99.8, allegedly did not for the appear test held on September 5th.
The complainant also alleged that the candidate’s father had paid Rs. 15- 20 lakhs for this. The candidate was scheduled to appear for the test at a centre located at Borjharpur in the city. But, after completing the biometric attendance formalities, he came out of the exam hall with the help of invigilator and someone else appeared in the test on his behalf. The matter came to light after the candidate reportedly admitted this during a phone call, which was recorded, said DCP. We are also reaching out to the National Testing Agency and sought a data related JEE (mains), he added.
