1K stranded Indians will bring back by two war ships from Maldives

New Delhi: Nearly 1K stranded Indians will be brought homes from Maldives by two amphibious war ships under phase I of the major evacuation operation called “Samudra Setu” Sea Bridge launched by the Navy on Tuesday.

The two war ships INS Jalashwa and INS Magar will reach Male on May 8th and May 10th respectively. The war ships which have medical facilities on board and will adhere to strict Covid- 19 related social distancing and other protocols, will then head back to disembark the around 1K evacuees at Cochin. The evacuees will be entrusted to the care of State Authorities, said naval spokesperson Commander Vivek Madhwal. Under the Samudra Setu operation the navy is also keeping 12 other war ships on standby for the proposed mass evacuation of Indians from the Gulf region.

The two of them are out at sea, and will head to UAE with the Government decide to deploy them to that country. The Indian mission is preparing a list of Indian nationals to be evacuated in Maldives the first two naval war ships and will facilitates their embarkation after the requisite medical screening.
