
Amidst Covid-19 scare: Modi’s Dhaka visit deferred
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Bangladesh has been cancelled after Dhaka informed India and other countries on Monday that it is deferring the Birth Century celebrations of the Bangladesh founder Sheikh Mujibur Rehman due to the global Corona virus epidemic.
The Union Government in a press note on Monday evening said that Modi’s visit has been deferred. The Bangladesh would convey the fresh dates for the event to New Delhi later. Bangladesh had apparently announced the postponement in Dhaka late on Sunday night. Modi was to travel to Bangladesh to participate in the Centenary Birth Anniversary celebrations of Sheikh Mujibur Rehman on March 17th. He was popularly known as “Banga Bandhu”, who successfully led the Bangladesh freedom struggle in 1971.
Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is the daughter of Mujibur Rehman who was assassinated in 1975.
