Kurnool district officers are on high alert
Kurnool: The Tungabhadra dam board has informed the first flood warning message to the district officials on Saturday. The T.B dam board officials ask the Kurnool district authority to take preventive steps at villages on the river bed, with heavy inflows reaching into the dam.
The T.B dam board officials lifted the gates and released 50, 000 C.U’s of water to the down streams. The quantum may raise upto one lakhs C.U’s due to heavy rain in the catchment area of the dams in Karnataka. The T.B dam receiving two lakhs C.U’s water and have 76.37 TMC feets against the total capacity of 100 TMC feets of water. The officials expecting a flood to Kurnool if the flood water raised in the river.
In the mean time in a remainder of 2009 floods, flood water of the Krishna water discharged from the Jurala project from Srisailam has reached the Jammichettu area near Kurnool. The Irrigation engineers at Srisailam dam expecting the danger, responded quickly and arranged for lifting of gates. According to the Irrigation officials, this is the first time in last ten years that such massive flood water flow has been witnessed. The water flow of 2.1 lakhs C.U’s is also a record in the last decade.
