Speaking on the occasion Yediyurappa saying that, I have decided to go to Raj Bhavan and submit my resignation as chief minister. I am not sad. I am happy that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP national president JP Nadda gave me two additional years despite breaching the 75-year-old cap. Words are not enough to thank them. I appeal that all of us work together to build the party, he said at the end of his fiery and emotional speech, holding back tears.
He also said that he worked for the party’s development in the state, at a time when there were no cars; I remember cycling to places on work for the party. I built the party when there was no one to do it, he said. Yediyurappa a four time Chief Minister has held the post only for five years and two months total. After the two years ceremony celebrations, he went straight to Raj Bhavan and submitted his two line resignation letter to the Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot.
Governor accepted Yediyurappa’s resignation and issued a statement saying the council of ministers had been dissolved. I resigned voluntarily. Nobody coerced me to quit. I have decided to work for the party, and I will not accept any decorative posts, said Yediyurappa, when asked if he would become the governor of a state. His claim of voluntary resignation is contradictory to the severe pushback he gave the BJP central leadership over the last few weeks.
