Jagan announced local body elections in March- 2020

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy decided to conduct local body polls in the State in the month of March 2020. The Government is going to implement revolutionary reforms in the local body elections, he said on Tuesday. The Government conducting elections to Gram Panchayats, MPTCs, ZPTCs  and Municipalities, which its time was ended one year back.

After the High Court verdict on the BC reservations pattern in the local body elections, the Government decided to conduct elections to the local bodies in the state, he said. The Government proposed reservations 59 % in the local body elections, but the TDP leaders filed a petition against the Government proposal on reservations in the High Court. After hearing the petition the High Court directed the Government the reservations should not cross the 50%.

The Government banned the liquor distribution and money distribution to the voters in the local body elections, he said. The Government decided to conduct local body elections with free and fare manner, without the influence of liquor and money. If any candidate violated the Government’s order will be disqualified from the post and eligible for three rigorous imprisonment, if proved the money and liquor used in the elections. After the election also he is liable for disqualification and imprisonment if proved the allegations, he added.
