
“Janata Curfew”: cities lock down railways, metro and all shops
New Delhi: The country on Sunday observed “Janata Curfew” to stop the transmission of the Covid- 19, is set to grind to a halt shortly as railway, metro and interstate bus services will be stopped.
The railways Authorities said it cancelled more than 1000 trains, will shut passenger train services till March 31. Interstate buses and metro services would follow the same schedule. Several states, including Punjab and Rajasthan, have announced a complete lockdown that involves shutting down public transport, malls and shops. The Union Government announced that only essential services will operate in 75 districts which saw confirmed cases of COVID-19.
Delhi has sealed its borders and shut its shops, allowing only essential items. Less than an hour after Aravind Kejriwal announced that all domestic flights at the airport will be banned, aviation regulator DGCA, in a counter, said no such ban was applicable.
Gujarat has announced a lockdown for four cities, Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, and Vadodara, until Wednesday. Only shops selling essentials like vegetables, dairy products, and medical items will remain open.
West Bengal has also announced a partial lockdown from 5 pm, Monday, to March 28 midnight. While a complete transport lockdown across the state has been announced, six districts have been totally shut to check the spread of the virus. Those who violate the shutdown may face arrest, authorities said.
Andhra Pradesh CM Jagan Mohan Reddy announced complete lock down in three districts in the state, i.e. Prakasham, Krishna and Vishakhapatnam as per the directions of Union Government which affected by Covid-19. The Government also streamlined the administration in the Covid- 19 affected districts, 50% of the employees will allow to work from home. The employees of the Secretariat will be divided to work in three shifts. The first shift will commence at 9 am, second shift at 10 am and the third shift at 10.30 am. The Government also instructed those who are above the rank of section officer should attend the office every day.
Telangana CM KCR also announced complete lock down in five districts i.e. Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Medchal, Sanga Reddy and Bhadradri. The State Government cancelled all RTC buses and Railways and Metro services and shops, malls etc, upto 31st March. The Government also implemented the shift system in the Government offices. KCR announced Rs. 1, 500 cash assistance and 12 Kgs rice to the poor people who is having White ration cards until lock down lifted.
