Madras High Court bans use of mobile phones in temples in Tamil Nadu

Chennai:  The Madras High Court banned the use of mobile phones in temples in Tamil Nadu State is to maintain purity and sanctity of the places of worship. The Court in its judgement said that phone deposit lockers should be set up at temples.

Security personnel will also be appointed to ensure compliance of this order. The High Court gave its verdict on a plea seeking ban on use of mobile phones at the Subramania Swamy temple. The petitioner argued that mobile phones distract people and clicking pictures of deities is a violation of rules of agamas.

He also said photography could endanger security of temples besides apprehensions in women over their pictures being clicked without their consent. He also wanted compliance of decent dress code for decorum.
