Mamatha Banerjee wish EC to put bye – election campaigns stop for 10 days amid Dusshera

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that she wants EC to put bye poll campaign on hold for ten days from October 10th, during that people will celebrate the big festival Dusshera.

EC announced bye – elections for four constituencies’i.e. Kharadaha, Shantipur, Dinhata and Gosaba which are scheduled to be held on October 30th. Speaking to the media persons on Saturday at Secretariat Nabanna Mamatha said that I wish the Election Commission puts on hold all bye poll campaigns during Durga puja and Lakshmi puja. People will be in festive mood. They shouldn’t be disturbed. Campaigns can commence from October 21st for a week.

She also said that the poll panel has not objected to the Government’s decision to grant an allowance of Rs 50K to every puja committee, and money would be disbursed soon. The State has decided to put off the implementation of Lakshmir Bhandar scheme in districts as per the directions of EC where bye –elections will take place on October 30th. Mothers will be receiving Lakhsmir Bhandar benefits from November again. They will get two months’ dole together next month, she said.
