Naravane assumed office of India’s new Army Chief

New Delhi: Gen. Manoj Mukund Naravane took over as India’s 28th Army Chief on Tuesday. He was succeeding Gen. Bipin Rawat who was retired and appointed the Country’s first Chief of Defence staff.

After assuming the office Gen. Manoj Mukund Naravane talked tough on Pakistan. Army was ready to deal with any terrorist trying to cross the Line of Control into Kashmir, he said. One neighbour is trying to use terrorism as a tool of state policy, as a way of carrying out a proxy war against us, while maintaining deniability. He also said the Pakistan they can’t fool all the people all the time. The Indian Army fully prepared to meet this threat, as the Army has a strong anti-terrorism grid. The force was better prepared to face any challenge that may come up at India’s borders with Pakistan and China, he said.

He also said his focus was on Army restructuring, weapon systems modernization and non-contact warfare. The Army Chief Naravane was Commissioned into 7th Battalion, Sikh light infantry regiment, in June 1980. He is alumnus of the National Defense Academy and the Military Academy at Dehradun.
