Common Life in Mumbai Stalled: Due to Heavy Rains

Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis monitored the situation at the disaster management control room of BMC along with civic officials. The MET department warned of extremely heavy rainfall in adjoining areas of Thane and Palghar on July 4th and 5th. The Mumbai University also postpones the exam of BSC computer science of 1st and 2nd year students due to heavy rains. The CR personnel rescue thousands of passenger’s standard in local trains and served them tea, biscuits and other food items at situations with the help of RPF Jawans.

         Three days non-stop rain halted the all walks of life’s in Mumbai and Maharashtra. Atleast 35 people were killed and 85 injured due to the heavy rains in Mumbai and Maharashtra. The MET forecasted the heavy rains in Mumbai and Maharashtra for coming three days.

         Many low line areas in the Mumbai city water logged and normal life was interrupted. The Maharashtra government announced holiday to the govt. offices, colleges and schools due to heavy rains. Heavy rains severely affected on air services and sub-urban and express train services. In Rajiv Gandhi International airport officials cancelled 203 services due to the heavy rains on Tuesday.

         Due to heavy rains in Mumbai city water logging as reported at airport colony, vakola junction, postal colony, near chunabhatti railway station and vakola raod. According to the BMC officials over 1000 people were evacuated from Kranthi Nagar, Kurla to prevent any untoward incidents due to an over flowing Mithi River.

      Due to heavy rains resulted in delayed and suspended train services, water logged roads and impacted flight services as a plain overshot the runway at the Mumbai International Airport. The rain fall received the Mumbai within 24 hours as a record of 163mm with the highest in sub-urban followed by western sub-urban 309mm as per the BMC.

       Operations at central railways was suspended which left thousands standard in the trains during the time and was rescued by CR and RPF Jawans. The western line was also impacted as 180 sub-urban services and 11 express trains were cancelled.
