Delhi Court convicts expelled BJP MLA Sengar in Unnao rape case

New Delhi: BJP expelled MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar was convicted by a Delhi Court on Monday for raping a woman at Unnao in Uttar Pradesh in 2017. The Court convicted Sengar for rape under the IPC and POCSO Act for the offence of a public servant committing penetrative sexual assault against a child.  

   Delhi District Judge Dharmesh Sharma acquitted Sashi Singh of all charges. The CBI proved in the Court the victim girl was a minor. The Judge said reading the verdict that I found her statement “truthful and unblemished” that she was sexually assaulted. She was under threat worried. She is a village girl, not from a cosmopolitan educated area, MLA Sengar was a powerful person. So she took her time the Judge said. The Court also noted that after the victim wrote a letter to UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, several criminal cases were filed against her family with the influence of Sengar was visible in them.

   The Court expressed surprise over the CBI delay in filing the chargesheet in the rape case and said that it prolonged the trail against the MLA and the others. The Court said that the victims testimony was “truthful and unblemished” against a powerful person. After his conviction the MLA brokedown in the Court room, and was seen crying beside his sister.
