JNU student’s massive agitation: police used water cannons

New Delhi: The Jawahar Lal Nehru University students staged a massive protest on Monday in University Campus for the huge hike of hostel fees, mess charges and against the dress code. The police used water cannons on the students who gathered at the university to protest.

    The HRD Minister and the Vice President Venkaiah Naidu attended for the convocation at the University on Monday; the students expressed their protest and anger on them and closed the gates of the college, not to permit them to go out. For this incident, the police used force with sticks and water cannons on the students to control them.

   The HRD Department hiked the hostel charges 300 times at once. Students are alleging that it is heavy burden to the middle class students and it shows the inequality among the students. The old rate of the hostel fee is Rs. 10/- for a single room, it enhanced Rs. 300. The double room rent Rs. 20 and it is hiked to Rs. 600.  The refundable mess deposit is hiked Rs. 12000/- instead of Rs. 5, 500/-.    The students are fully against on the dress code prescribed by the university. The students are demanding to withdrawn dress code. They are also against the imposing curfew in the campus. Students raised slogans against police Tishazari-Tishazari… students staging agitations since twelve days.
