
Modi conducted Ariel survey on Cyclone affected areas in Odisha
Bhubaneshwar: The Prime Minister Narendra Modi conducted an Ariel survey on Friday in Odisha to assess the damage caused by Cyclone Yass. Later he and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik met in Bhubaneswar this morning.
Later PM issued a statement after his meeting with Odisha Chief Minister, in the note he said the effective role of Central and States agencies in responding to the challenge posed by Yaas.
Modi advised all agencies to ensure the restoration of normal life in the affected areas as soon as possible and asked that relief material is disbursed to all persons affected by the cyclone. At least three people died as Yaas hit Odisha. Over 100 NDRF teams have been deployed across Odisha and West Bengal to help in rescue and relief efforts.
Patnaik thanked the Prime Minister for visiting the state and said he had informed him of the large-scale devastation caused by Cyclone Yaas. Later Prime Minister announced ₹ 1,000 crore for relief measures. ₹ 500 crore is to be given immediately to Odisha, with equal sums for Bengal and Jharkhand.
These will be released on the basis of damage. He also announced a compensation of ₹ 2 lakh for the bereaved families of each of those who died in cyclone related incidents. A sum of ₹ 50,000 would be paid to those injured in such incidents.
