Police, lawyers clashes in Court premises: several lawyers and police injured

New Delhi: Ten police personnels and several lawyers were injured and 17 vehicles vandalized in Tis hazari Court premises on Saturday, while the clash took place between the lawyers and police.  

    According to the police, the injured included ACP (North District) Harinder Kumar, SHOs of Kotwali and Civil lines and other operator of DCP (North).

    The lawyers alleged that four of their colleagues were injured, one in police firing. But the police denied that it had opened fire.  The Tishazari Court Bar Associations condemned the incident and called a one day strike across all District Courts in the National Capital on November 4th. According to the Tishazari Bar Associations Secretary Jai Veer Singh Chauhan said that a lawyer’s car allegedly hit a police jail van following which an argument broke out between him and police.

    He was then taken inside a lockup and beaten up badly. The SHO came but was not allowed inside. The District Judges of Central and West District, along with six Judges went there but unable to let lawyer out. After leaving Judges, the police fired four rounds of bullets. The protesting lawyer Ranjith Singh received bullet injury. The injured lawyers were rushed to saint Stephen’s hospital for treatment.
