
RTC can’t be closed without centre’s approval: Gadkari
New Delhi: A state Government can liquidate its RTC only after the approval of the centre, said the Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday. He was responding to a question from Congress MP K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao, in Rajya Sabha who asked whether a state can independently decide to windup its RTC or merge it without consent from the central Government.

The Minister
said under section 39 of RTC Act 1950, an RTC can be liquidated by the State
Government concerned with prior approval of the centre. He however made it
clear that the central Government does not bear any losses incurred by state
RTC’s.

Uttam Kumar Reddy met Gadkari along with MPs Komati Reddy Venkat Reddy and
Revanth Reddy and discussed about log jam over TSRTC. They met Gadkari at his
chamber.
