Hyderabad: People of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana celebrating the Telugu New Year day “Ugadi” on Sunday with a great joy and pleasure. Ugadi festival is celebrating on the first day of the month of “Chaitra”.
People will perform pooja’s to Lord Sun, the king of Planets, which are showing their power on the earth and on the life style of the human beings.
Telugu speaking people starting their New Year, as per the lunar Telugu calendar which is consist of 60 years as a circle. It will rotate every year after completion of the 60 years.
This calendar starts with Prabhava Nama Samavatsara to the ending of Akshaya Nama Samavatsara (60th Year). Now this year is called “Vishwavasu Nama Samvatsaram”, it is the 39th year in the circle of 60 years of the calendar.
Every year this Telugu lunar calendar starts with the Chaitra Shudha Padyami (means the first day of the month of Chaitra). It is called the new year of Telugu speaking people. Karnataka, Maharashtra and some Northern day also celebrates their New Year at the same day in different names.
The people of Tamil Nadu will celebrate their New Year as per Saura calendar, after 15 days of the Telugu New Year.
