
Police lathi charged: anti, pro- CAA protesters clash in Delhi
New Delhi: Police used tear gas and a lathi charge on the mob at North Eastern Delhi’s Jaffarabad area on Sunday to disperse the pro and anti-CAA protesters clashing. The clash erupted around 3.00 pm when the two groups started pelting stones at each other, despite in a heavy police presence.
As per the witnesses, nearly more than 500 women gathered to protest against CAA. They also gathered on Saturday night also. As the anti-CAA group was shouting slogans, people turned up shouting “Jai Sri Ram” and other slogans. Suddenly one section of people started pelting stones at those gathered. The other group also started pelting stones in retaliation the police used lathi charge to bring the situation in control.
The trouble escalated when BJP leader Kapil Mishra decided to hold a rally backing CAA. Mishra arrived near the Jaffarabad Metro Station and demanded the anti-CAA protesters be removed. Some other joined him and began pelting stones. Tension prevailed as protesters blocked the road near Metro Station that connects Salimpur with Maujpur and Yamuna Vihar. This was the second day that the anti-CAA protesters had hit the streets, prompting Delhi Metro to close the gates of Jaffarabad Metro Station.
