Remove references to any religion or foreign country: KCR

Hyderabad: The Telangana State Legislative Assembly unanimously passed a resolution opposing the CAA and urging the Centre to amend the CAA (1991) to remove references to any religion or foreign country.

The house also expressed concern over the proposed implementation of the NPR and NRC which could result in the exclusion of a large number of people. Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandra Sekhar Rao moved the resolution in the house and the Congress and MIM members supported it. CM said that it was not a question of Muslims or Hindus, but one that affected the country, while initiating the discussion in the house.

In a civilized society like India we can’t tolerate such nuisance which has led to unrest in several parts of the country amid apprehensions, he said. KCR also said that Telangana had strong reasons to oppose the CAA brought in by the BJP led NDA Government. CM said that being the state is a youngest in the country and contributing to nation-building, had the responsibility to speak on such issues. He questioned the Union Government at a time world is moving towards breaking down the borders, is there a need such divisive politics. This in not be taken lightly, and there is a need to oppose such narrow minded politics.

Dissent can’t be seen as anti-national, which is what is happening now, he said. He pointed out that eight states, i.e., West Bengal, Kerala and Rajasthan has passed similar resolutions. While passing the resolution, the Assembly urged the state Government to take all necessary steps to safeguard the people of Telangana from exercise such as NPR and NRC.
