Lift election code with immediate effect in AP: SC

New Delhi: Supreme Court put an end to the AP State Election Commissioner’s decision to stall the Government’s welfare schemes in the state, postponing the local body elections for six weeks.

The Supreme Court bench headed by CJI Justice S.A. Bobde pronounced a judgement on the petition filed by the State Government of Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday. CJI Justice S.A. Bobde’s bench heard the case on Wednesday, and delivered judgement that the postponement of the local body elections due to the Corona virus spreading for six weeks is stands as it is. But the election code in the state lifts immediately. The state Government shall take developmental activities in the state as it is.

The Supreme Court bench also issued directions to the SEC Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar, he must consult with the State Government on the conducting of election process and schedule. Why he was not consulted with the Government at the time of taking the decision of local body elections postponement for six weeks.
