
Krishna water enters low lying areas in Vijayawada
Vijayawada: The heavy flow of flood water in river Krishna caused to submerge many villages, agricultural lands, crops in Vijayawada rural and urban mandals. Due to heavy floods to the Prakasham barrage since five days, the project authorities lifted its 70 crest gates and released the water into the river.
The Prakasham barrage authorities gradually increasing the outflows from the barrage from 1 lakhs C.U’s to 7 lakhs C.U’s. The Krishna flood water in the downstream enters Krishna Lanka, Bhavanipuram and other low lying areas in Vijayawada on Friday. The Revenue officials shifted the low lying area people into shelter homes and make arrangements. Krishna district Collector Imtiaz Ahmed visited the flood affected areas and monitoring the rescue operations.

At 6 pm on Friday 7.6 lakhs C.U’s of water was being discharged from the Prakasham barrage. Over 11 thousand people were shifted to the shelter homes. The irrigation authorities shooted the flood situation in the Krishna river and the affected areas with the drone cameras for taking relief measures. Some layers of Guntur district also submerged in the flood water. The illegal constructions in the Krishna River bed near the Karakatta, the illegal building was surrounded by the flood water and entered in some buildings also. The former Chief Minister N. Chandra Babu Naidu’s residence, Lingamaneni guest house also reached the water.
