Gradually reaching normalcy in the LG Polymer plant: people have to wait some more days to come back their homes

Vishakhapatnam: The ongoing counter action efforts in the LG Polymers to complete seal the Styrene Monomer tank may take two more days. The experts of the chemical sector and the NDRF personnels efforts bring the normalcy in the company gradually in two days.

Even though the air quality has been improving gradually in the five surrounding villages, officials say people will be allowed to return their homes only after the Styrene level in the air goes down to zero. The four members chemical and biology team of the NDRF along with a five member team from the CSIR- National Environment Institute are working around the clock to restore normalcy at the plant and adjoining areas.

Dr. Anjan Ray, Director of CSIR- Indian Institute of Petroleum, accompanied with a Styrene expert from a private industry visited the plant on Saturday evening to make stock of the situation and make recommendations. The AP Minister for Agriculture K. Kanna Babu said that water is being sprinkled continuously to bring down the temperature of the tank. The temperature has now reached 98.4 C on Sunday morning. He also said the Government advising the people to not return home until gave an official announcement. The Government will assess the situation on Sunday and makes an announcement.

A four member team of experts from the Institute of Petroleum and energy also visited the plant on Saturday. IIPE Director Prof. V.R.K. Prasad said things are pretty much under control at the plant. The NDRF Commandant Zahir Khan said their team is working on neutralization. Currently, everything is under control. Temperature has come down to sub- 100 C from the earlier 150 C, he said.
