Gas leak victims, relatives staged protests with the dead bodies infront of the factory gate

Vishakhapatnam: The victims of LG Polymers gas leak incident staged a protest outside the gate on Saturday demanding the arrest of company officials. The protesters also demanded that the unit either be moved away or be permanently shut.

The leak of Styrene vapours are from the unit’s storage tanks on May 7th leading to the death of 12 people. The protesters brought three dead bodies of the victims to the place of protest and said they would not conduct the last rites until the Government announces that the LG unit would be closed or relocated. The people of R.R. Venkatapuram is very near to the LG Polymers staged protest and they said they are rejecting the Andhra Pradesh Government’s compensation of Rs. 1 crore to the kin of the deceased in the gas leak incident.

The angry protesters are also tried to prevent DGP Gautam Sawang, who was visiting the plant from entering the campus. Tempers ran high in the village and the police had to cardonoff the plant to stop the villages from entering it. DGP Gautam Sawang wants to interact with angry villagers; the cops threw a security blanket around the DGP. As he walked close to factory entrance, villagers started jostling and shouting slogans, forcing Sawang to retreat. He was accompanied by Chief Special Secretary (Industries) Karikal Valaven.
