
Amphan Cyclone: Mamatha Said Personally Monitoring the Control Room
Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamatha Benarjee said that three lakh people have been moved to safety from the seven districts in the most vulnerable zone of Bengal. She started a control room to monitor the cyclone situation in the West Bengal on Tuesday. She said that the Bengal would monitor “Red Plus Zones”, for cyclone Amphan, which is likely to hit the state Wednesday afternoon.
She reviewing arrangements at control room set up in her office in Kolkata. She also said that she will stay overnight in the control room on Wednesday, she announced reporters after visiting the control room. Mamatha Benarjee warned people near the coast against stepping out and said they should stay in from Wednesday morning until an all-clear was sounded on Thursday.
She also said that tail-end of a cyclone can do worst damage, so people should not come out of their homes until they get an all-clear. She recollecting that when cyclone Fani hit last year, more died when the cyclone was leaving. Mamatha said that “the storm has three parts, the head, the eye and the tail. Don’t think the storm is over when the eye passes. Wait till the tail also crosses your district.”
The seven districts on alert had enough masks and sanitizers, she said. She said that she was worried about migrants arriving in the bad weather. Special “Shramik” trains should not come to Bengal till Thursday due to the cyclone. Home Minister Amit Shah spoken in a phone calls with Chief Minister Mamatha Benarjee on Wednesday morning and said the center will provide all help. She told to the reporters that she said to the Home Minister everything in the state is ok, we handle cyclone Bulbul also.
