Mamatha Request PM to Visit West Bengal: Devastated Areas of Amphan Cyclone

Kolkata: The severe cyclone Amphan devastated West Bengal with gusty winds with 195 kmph from Wednesday 02:30pm onwards. The West Bengal Chief Minister Mamatha Benarjee said that 72 persons killed the Amphan in the state, out of them 15 only in Kolkata. Mamatha Benarjee requested the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit cyclone hit West Bengal and help to re-build the state.

She announced an exgratia of Rs. 2.50 Lakhs for the kith and Kin of the deceased persons. Many trees are uprooted; many buildings collapsed and thatched roping houses flown away in the cyclone winds. Nearly 1,00,000 Cr loss incurred to the state due to the devastation of Amphan. The Kolkata low lying areas are turned into water loggings.

The Kolkata airport hangers collapsed and the airport run way inundated in the flood water. The people were killed due to the felling up trees and electrodes. Chief Minister Mamatha Benarjee said that Amphan cyclone caused a heavy loss to the state, she never seen such devastation since a decade.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a tweet on Thursday said that the government will help fully to devastate West Bengal. The officials are touch with the West Bengal officials and monitoring the cyclone situation. He prays that the Bengal will stay safely. Union Home Minister Amit Shah spokes to the Chief Minister Mamatha Benarjee and Naveen Patnaik over phone and assures them the centre will cooperate to the cyclone hit states with all support. Already NDRF troops are participating in rescue and relief operations, he said.

Odissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday took an Ariel survey in the cyclone affected districts.
