Kolkata: West Bengal Agriculture Minister Shobhandeb Chattopadhyay resigned for his post of MLA on Friday, and he submitted his resignation to the Speaker to pave a way to Chief Minister Mamatha Banerjee to contest from Bhawanipore Constituency.

He was elected from Bhawanipore constituency in 2021 elections, Chief Minister Mamatha Banerjee leaves the constituency to Shobhandeb Chattopadhyay, and she contested against her former aide Suvendu Adhikari in Nandigram Constituency and lost to him.

Speaking to the media persons Shobhandeb Chattopadhyay said that Mamata Banerjee will fight from Bhawanipore in the coming six months, before handing in his resignation to Assembly Speaker Biman Bandopadhyay.

He will continue as State Agriculture Minister for six months, during which time he will contest from another seat to return to the Assembly. Mamata Banerjee has to contest by-polls within six months to continue as Chief Minister, to become a member of the state legislative assembly.
