New Delhi: Nine opposition leaders wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagging the blatant misuse of investigating agencies to eliminate the opposition. They alleged that the arrest of Manish Sisodia was indicative of India’s transition from being a democracy to an autocracy, days after the arrest of Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia by the CBI on an excise policy case.

The issue of Governors acting in violation of the constitutional provisions and hindering the governance of the states was raised in a letter signed by main Opposition leaders including Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal (AAP) BRS Chief Chandrasekhar Rao, JKNC Chief Farooq Abdullah, TMC Chief Mamata Banerjee, NCP Chief Sharad Pawar , SP Chief Akilesh Yadav, RJD leader and Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejaswi Yadav and Shiv Sena Chief Uddhav Thackeray. But, the main opposition Congress, left parties and DMK was away from this letter.

The Nine opposition leaders in their joint letter said that after a long witch-hunt, Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was arrested on the 26th of February 2023, by the CBI in connection with alleged irregularity without a shred of evidence against him. The allegations against Sisodia are out rightly baseless and smack of a political conspiracy. The arrest suggests that we have transitioned from being a democracy to an autocracy, it stated.
