Chennai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in major cultural and historical events commemorating the legacy of Chola emperor Rajendra Chola – I on Sunday.
Modi will arrive at the renowned Gangaikonda Cholapuram Temple at noon on Sunday in Tiruchirappalli district to attend the grand millennium celebration of the emperor’s maritime expedition, which coincides with the observance of the Aadi Tiruvathirai Festival.

As part of the ceremony, PM Modi will release a commemorative coin in honour of Rajendra Chola- I, paying tribute to one of India’s greatest emperors and his far-reaching naval conquests that extended the Chola empire’s influence across Southeast Asia.

The Prime Minister is also scheduled to participate in a series of other events in Gangaikonda Cholapuram later in the day, marking the millennium of Rajendra Chola’s maritime achievements and reaffirming the Centre’s commitment to preserving and promoting ancient Indian heritage.

Tiruchy Decked with Modi banners and posters:

Modi will participate in the birth anniversary celebrations of Chola emperor Rajendra Chola I, as part of the Aadi Thiruvathirai Festival scheduled to be held on Sunday at the Gangaikonda Cholapuram Temple in Ariyalur district.

BJP workers and AIADMK functionaries in a few areas have put up posters, banners, and flags along the route from Tiruchy International Airport to a private hotel in the city. The entire city has taken on a festive look as part of the Aadi Thiruvathirai Festival at the Gangaikonda Cholapuram Temple.

The stretch from Tiruchy International Airport to a private star hotel near the Collector’s office, where the Prime Minister is going to stay, has been lined with party flags and banners put up by BJP cadres and AIADMK functionaries. Posters and cut-outs welcoming the Modi dominate the landscape, lending a celebratory tone to the entire route.

Amid the numerous banners praising Modi, a few have stood out and drawn particular attention from passers-by. Some of these prominently depict the Prime Minister as a Modern Chola King, blending political reverence with historical symbolism.

One banner near the airport boldly proclaims, The Modern Chola King is Coming, equating Modi’s leadership with the legacy of the mighty Chola dynasty.
