Alapan Bandyopadhyay appointed as Chief Advisor to CM Mamatha

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamatha Banerjee appointed the Chief Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay as her Chief Advisor on Monday.

She announced that the Chief Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay from his service on 31st May, 2021 and not accepting the extension of his service for three more months as Chief Secretary of West Bengal, which was issued by the Central Government. Mamatha Banerjee appointed the senior IAS officer HK Dwivedi as the new Chief Secretary of West Bengal in the place of Alapan Bandyopadhyay.

Mamatha Banerjee defying the Central Government’s orders of deputation of Chief Secretary to relieve from the State Service to DoPT as deputation. The political feud escalated between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Mamatha Banerjee skipped from the review meeting of Cyclone Yaas on May 28th. Then the Central Government issued deputation orders to Chief Secretary to report to DoPT in New Delhi on 31st May.

Mamata Banerjee in her five page letter to PM Modi said that she would not allow Bandyopadhyay’s transfer to Delhi as ordered by the Centre. In her letter she said that this transfer is vendetta. I have decided we need his service for the Covid – 19 pandemic. For Covid – 19 and for Cyclone Yaas, he must continue his service to the poor, the state, the country, and the affected people.

The West Bengal Government cannot release and is not releasing Chief Secretary at this critical hour.  On the basis of our understanding that the earlier order of extension, issued after lawful consultation in accordance with applicable laws, remains operational and valid, she said in her letter.
