Announce Bye-Polls in West Bengal Covid-19 situation under control: Mamata Banerjee

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamatha Benarjee urged the Election Commission on Monday announce the dates for the pending bye-polls to seven assembly seats in the state immediately.

EC should ensure that the democratic rights of people are not curtailed, she said in a press conference at secretariat. She ascertained the Covid-19 situation in the state, the condition is under control. People have the right to cast their ballot, Election Commission had asked for the opinion of political parties.

Bypolls are due in the seven assembly constituencies of West Bengal — Jangipur, Samshergunj, Khardha, Bhabanipur, Dinahata, Shantipur and Goshaba. TMC Supremo Mamatha Benarjee is likely to contest from her home turf Bhabanipur assembly constituency.
