New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal advised four suggestions on boosting vaccines production to Central Government on Saturday. In his letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said the Delhi has stopped the rollout Covid – 19 vaccines for the 18-44 age groups due to a shortage of doses.

It is important to speed – up the vaccination drives, to protect the country from a third Covid – 19 waves. Kejriwal in a video address said that the Delhi Government received doses from the Central Government for 18-44 age groups have been used.

This is very sad to say that a few doses were left, which will also be used by the evening. We have informed the vaccine shortage to the Centre in this letter, as soon as we receive supply, we will re – open the centres, he said.

Kejriwal in his letter to Prime Minister explained that every month, Delhi needs 80 lakh doses but it received only 16 lakh doses in May, for June, our share has been reduced further to eight lakh doses. If the city gets 8 lakh doses every month, it will take at least 30 months to vaccinate the entire city, his letter read.

Kejriwal’s four suggestions to the Centre:

  • All vaccine makers in India, within 24 hours, should be ordered to manufacture Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin to ramp up stocks. Foreign vaccine makers should be allowed to rollout their vaccines within 24 hours.
  • The Centre should speak to international vaccine manufacturers, buy from them and distribute to States. States and union territories are fighting with each other.
  • Some countries have stocked more vaccines than they need and the centre should request these nations to give the excess to India.
  • International vaccine manufacturers should be given permission to manufacture in India.
