Avani Lekhara (19) created a history at Tokyo Paralympics by winning Gold Medal in Women’s 10m Air Rifle
New Delhi: Indian Para Athlete Avani Lekhara (19) scripted a new record in rifle shooting event by clinching a Gold Medal on Monday in Tokyo Paralympics. She won Gold Medal in R2 Women’s 10m Air Rifle SH1 with a world record score of 249.6 in the final.

She made history on Monday as she became the first Indian woman Athlete to win gold. She hails from Jaipur, Rajasthan bagged India’s first gold in Tokyo and overall fifth in Paralympics history.
Lekhara sustained severe spinal cord injuries in the accident in 2012 but she took it upon herself to steer the course, helped generously by her father’s insistence that she take up shooting.
