Breaking News: Cyclone Nisarga Live Updates: Landfall Near Alibaug at 02:30pm: Flights Operations at Mumbai Airport Were Closed Until 07:00pm

Mumbai: Cyclone Nisarga crossed the Mumbai coast near Alibaug at 01:30pm, with wind speed of up to 120 Kmph. Cyclone Nisarga has started weakening and intensity reduces further by evening, said the IMD in a bulletin. According to the IMD DG Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, the landfall belongs at 12:30pm at Alibaug and was completed by 02:30pm. The cyclone lay 75 Km southeast of Mumbai and 65 km west of Pune. “It has started weakening. The wind speed is currently 90-100 km per hour and the intensity will reduce further by the evening,” he said. The cyclone will further weaken into a cyclonic storm by evening and into a deep depression by late night.

As per the airport authority sources, Flight operations at the Mumbai airport were closed until 07:00pm after a Fedex aircraft overshot following heavy rains and winds amid the landfall of Nisarga. Fedex MD11 aircraft was involved in a runway excursion on runway 14 at Mumbai on Wednesday. The aircraft has gone out of runway end by 9 meters. There is no reported damage to aircraft infrastructure and aircraft.”

Mumbai police stopped vehicular movement on Bandra-Worli sea link, after the process of landfall of cyclone Nisarga began. The NDRF DG advised people not come out from houses for six or seven hours atleast. The cyclone will bring heavy winds and rains to the Mumbai, he said. The landfall process is stated to complete in three hours. IMD said that the elaborating on the expected outcome, that major damages could be caused to thatched houses and huts.

Roof tops may be blow off. Unattached metal and sheets may fly. Damage to power and communication lines may happen, major damage to Kutcha and some damage to Pucca roads, flooding of escape routes, breaking of tree branches, uprooting of large avenue trees, damage to banana and papaya trees, large dead limbs blown from trees, major damage to coastal crops and damage to embankments/ salt pans.
