Delhi Associate professor Ratan Lal arrested over social media post on Varanasi’s Gyanvapi Mosque

New Delhi: Delhi University’s Hindu College, Associate professor Ratan Lal was arrested on Friday night for his objectionable social media post referring to claims about a ‘Shiva Ling’ which was found inside Varanasi’s Gyanvapi Mosque complex.

According to the police sources Associate professor Ratan Lal was charged under IPC sections 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony) and 295A (deliberate act to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion) by the Cyber Police Station, North.

Police filed an FIR against the Associate professor Ratan Lal on Tuesday night on the basis a complaint filed by a Delhi lawyer Vineet Jindal. The complainant in his complaint said that Ratan Lal had recently shared a derogatory, inciting and provocative tweet on the Shiva Ling.
