
Focus on e- NAM: Modi reviews on Agricultural reforms
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting on Saturday to deliberate on the reforms required in Agriculture sector and emphasized on dissemination of technology till the last mile to take farmers more competitive in the global value chain.
Among various Agriculture issues, developing existing e-NAM (e- National Agriculture Market) web portal into a bigger platform to enable e- Commerce was one of the important topics of discussion. If it gets the final decision, may transform trading of all farm related commodities including seeds, fertilizers and Agro chemical plant protection inputs in the country.
Home Minister Amit Shah, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman and others attended the review meeting. The Agriculture Ministry has already decided to increase the e-NAM outlets to
1, 000 mandis (Agriculture Markets) across the country by the May end and tweaked certain provisions which would enable farmers to sell their produce without visiting the regulated mandis. According to the PMO’s statement special emphasis was given on reforms in Agriculture marketing, management of marketable surplus, access of farmers to institutional credit and freeing agriculture sector of various restrictions with appropriate backing of statute.
Concessional credit flow to strengthen agriculture infrastructure, special Kisan Credit Card saturation drive for PM- Kisan beneficiaries and facilitating intra and interstate trade of Agriculture produce to ensure fairest return to farmer were some of the important areas covered.
