Former CBI Director Ashwani Kumar Hanged Himself at his Residence

Shimla: Former Manipur and Nagaland Governor, Former CBI director Ashwani Kumar was found hanging at his Shimla residence on Wednesday evening. He was survived with wife and son, the police said they have found suicide note. According to Himachal DGP Sanjay Kundu, Ashwani Kumar (69) from Nahan in Sirmaur dist of Himachal allegedly hanged himself from the attic of his residence in the posh brockhurst area of Shimla.

He left behind a suicide note in which he wrote that, he was suffering from some disease and disability, said Himachal DGP. The suicide note ended with the lines, “I am ending my life. Everyone be happy. My soul embarking on a new journey”. There was no immediate clarity on which disease are disability Ashwani Kumar suffered from. Ashwani Kumar was the IPS Officer of 1973 batch; he was served as Himachal Pradesh DGP between 2006 and 2008. He was then appointed CBI director in 2008 to 2010.

He had also served in the then newly created SPG security detail of Rajiv Gandhi between 1985 to 1990.
