Huge storm in Delhi causes power blackouts: Flights delayed and traffic jams

New Delhi: Several parts of Delhi and nearby areas witnessed power blackouts due to heavy rain accompanied by strong winds early on Monday morning. The bad weather also affected flight operations at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport with several airlines requesting passengers to check on their flight status before heading to the airport.

According IMD reports thundershower with moderate rainfall will continue over Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) for the next two hours. The airport authorities have requested the passengers to contact the airline concerned for updated flight information. Due to bad weather, flight operations at Delhi airport are affected. Passengers are requested to get in touch with the airline concerned for updated flight information.

IMD in a tweet said vulnerable structures and kutcha houses could suffer damages due to the thunderstorm, and that traffic disruptions are likely. It also predicted thundershower with moderate intensity rain and gusty winds with speeds of 60-90 Km/h would continue to occur over and adjoining areas of entire Delhi and NCR during the next two hours. Strong winds and heavy rain uprooted trees in parts of Delhi which resulted in roads getting blocked.
