International sweets, kites festival launched at parade ground

Hyderabad: Telangana Tourism Department started International Kite and Sweets festival at the Secunderabad Parade ground on Monday. This festival was conducted on the occasion of the festival Sankranthi.

This year the organizers have an exhibition of weapons of the police and the competitions in local games like Golilu, Goti-Billa, Sack Race and Tyre Race. These kites are very heavy and they need a stiff breeze to fly but the weather is not favourable, said Kohinoor Kite Club flyer in the city. The Kiting experts from about 15 countries including South Korea, Ukraine and Indonesia, the lack of breeze let them down. There were some night Kite flyers from Singapore who would fly their kites using a battery.

Competitions for local traditional games were also setup in the Gymkhana Ground as a part of festival.  The state police distributed their own kites to the public. The display of sniffer dogs that trace explosives and narcotics attracted the attraction of many. The police displayed canine teams of German Shepherd, Labrador and Golden Retriever in the stalls. The canine teams which are deployed during VIP movement and during major investigations, 19 kinds of weapons that are being used by the police were also displayed in the stalls.  Nearly 500 participants from West Bengal, Kerala, Assam, Andhra Pradesh and Odisha also presented at the sweets festival.
