Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court granted interim bail to Twitter India Chief Manish Maheshwari who’d been summoned by Uttar Pradesh Police for questioning over tweets about the assault of a Muslim man in Ghaziabad.

The Court said Maheshwari whom the police later charged with intent to riot, promoting enmity and criminal conspiracy charges does not have to travel to UP at this time. Single bench Judge Justice G Narender said that this matter needs further consideration and reserved orders till June 29. No coercive action till then, he said. The Court said it was not stopping the investigation, after objection by the UP police.

If police desire to investigate or question, they may do so by virtual mode, Justice Narender said. During hearing Maheshwari had told the Karnataka High Court that in two days, the notices from the police changed from witness to accused.
