Katerina Sworn-in as Greece first women President

Athens: A former High Court Judge, first female President of Greece was formally Sworn-in as President of Greece on Friday. Nearly two months after the Country’s Parliament voted over whelmingly to elect her.

The Swearing-in ceremony for Katerina Sakell Aropoulou took place in an almost empty Parliament, as part of measures being taken to prevent the spread of the Covid-19. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis nominated Katerina Sakell Aropoulou as a non-partisan candidate who would enjoy broad support from across the political spectrum. All major parties voted infavour of her, she elected to the largely ceremonial post in a 261-33 vote in January, well above the 200 required.
