Covid 19: several states lock down educational institutions

New Delhi: Many states in India including Delhi shut down schools, colleges, gyms, cinema halls, and sports clubs etc, upto April 15th due to severe Covid-19. Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Chhattisgarh, UP, Maharashtra, Kerala and Karnataka states shut down all mass gathering places.

Karnataka announced a complete lock down of malls, cinema theatres, pubs and night clubs for atleast a week. Karnataka Chief Minister Yediyurappa issued orders to stops all kinds of exhibitions, summer camps, conferences, marriage events and birth day parties. He also said that we will close all universities for a week in the entire state.

Odisha state Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced the closure of educational institutions in the state but allowed conducting exams. Non- essential official gatherings such as seminars, workshops and conferences are cancelled. Cinema halls, swimming pools and gyms are closed. Social gatherings and assemblies like religious functions, marriage receptions and parties will regulated by local authorities.

In Delhi JNU, DU and Jamia Millia Islamia University suspended classes. Other universities such Jindal university in Sonepat, Haryana announced the university would be open but there would be no classes till March 29th. The IIT has directed students to leave hostels by Sunday as a preventive measure.

The Bihar Government also closed down educational institutions, zoos and parks, that no case was not reported in the state. Goa has asked hotels and industries to take preventive measures in the wake of the Corona virus scare.

Puducherry CM V. Narayana Swamy advised pilgrims, not to take baths in the tank of the Lord Saneeswarar Shrine near Karaikal. Punjab also closed down all educational institutions till March 31st.
